Ohio Wesleyan University Earns LEED Silver Certification

DELAWARE - (Tuesday, October 18, 2011) – Ohio Wesleyan University earns LEED Silver Certification for the new Meek Aquatics and Recreation Center. The project was completed in October 2010 and is the first LEED-certified building constructed on the OWU campus in Delaware, Ohio. Local engineer Karpinski Engineering was the Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing, Technology (MEPT) and Lighting Design consultant for the 24,300 square foot new competitive swimming pool and recreation center for use by the local community and the Battling Bishop men’s and women’s swim teams at Ohio Wesleyan University.

The centerpiece of the building’s environmentally conscious design includes a geothermal HVAC and pool heating system. In addition, recycled, regionally produced low VOC emitting building materials were used, low-flow water faucets and fixtures were installed, and daylighting and outside views from 90 percent of interior building spaces were designed with Toledo based architect, The Collaborative, Inc.

 

Cleveland Clinic’s Intercontinental Wellness Hotel: A Unique Project. A Unique Hotel.

CLEVELAND (Tuesday, September 13, 2011) – The Cleveland Clinic’s Intercontinental Hotel is putting its healthy foot forward. With the recent renovation and grand opening of the 162-suite facility, a unique, one-of-a-kind hotel was established not only in Cleveland but the nation. Local firm Karpinski Engineering was the engineering consultant for this renovation.

With a significant number of guests staying nearby to the Cleveland Clinic, visitors will feel more like they are entering a spa rather than a hotel. Guests of the Wellness Hotel are greeted at the wellness station and provided beverages and towels.

This hotel now offers 13 pure "anti-allergy" rooms with air purifiers, antibacterial-substance shielding on all hard surfaces and hypo-allergenic encasements on the bedding and linens, foldout couches for accompanying guests and caregivers, refrigerators with freezers for medicines, and reclining upright chairs in the rooms. The hotel also offers onsite acupuncture and massage therapy as well as stress reducing tools. The hotel also renovated and opened the Mediterranean-style restaurant called C2 Restaurant.

One year into a company started and run Wellness Program, ‘The wellness philosophy of Karpinski Engineering’s corporate culture followed all the way through our design services provided for the Intercontinental Wellness Hotel.’ Dennis Wessel, PE, Senior Vice President at Karpinski Engineering stated.

To provide guests with a health and wellness focused stay, Karpinski Engineering provided mechanical, electrical and plumbing system renovation which included HVAC system upgrades as well as renovation to guest rooms and hotel corridors. Further improvements were made to the Club Lounge on the 14th floor of the facility to improve its operation and appeal.
